Signl — AR WiFi coverage mapping for iPhone

What Signl does
Signl measures your real WiFi coverage — signal strength, throughput and latency — as you walk through a room, and paints the result onto the floor in augmented reality, so you can see exactly where the signal falls away.
Requirements
- An iPhone running iOS 18 or later.
- ARKit support, which every iPhone from the last several years has.
- LiDAR is optional. If your iPhone has it, Signl also builds a mesh of the room and the coverage follows it more precisely.
- Camera and location permission — see below for why location is needed.
Getting started
- Open Signl and allow camera and location access.
- Point your iPhone at the floor and hold it steady until the floor is detected.
- Walk slowly through the room. Coverage paints itself onto the floor as you go.
- Stop when you have covered the area you care about, and read the result.
Troubleshooting
The network name shows as unknown
iOS only reveals your WiFi network's name and signal strength to apps that have location access. Grant location in Settings → Signl → Location and restart the scan. Signl uses location for nothing else — see the privacy policy.
The floor is not detected
ARKit needs light and texture to lock onto a surface. Try turning more lights on, hold the iPhone roughly 1.5 m above the floor at a downward angle, and move it slowly from side to side. Plain, glossy or very dark floors take longer.
Speed readings fail or show as zero
Signl measures throughput against Cloudflare's public speed endpoint. A VPN, a corporate proxy or a captive portal — the sign-in page on hotel and café WiFi — can block it. Disconnect the VPN or finish signing in to the network, then scan again. Signal strength still works even when the speed test cannot run.
The scan drifts or the heatmap sits in the wrong place
AR tracking drifts if the camera loses sight of the floor. Keep the floor in frame while you walk, avoid covering the lens, and avoid walking backwards quickly. If it drifts badly, start a new scan.
Reporting a bug
Email us with your iPhone model, your iOS version, and what you were doing when it went wrong. A screenshot or screen recording helps enormously.
